The Dragon Mounts Mod is a very popular mod that basically gives the dragon egg item, which is dropped by the ender dragon when it is slain by a player. Once you acquire the egg (which can be picked up by a piston) you can then hatch yourself your very own tamable pet dragon that can be ridden with a saddle. Apart fro slaying the ender dragon an easy alternative is to find them in dungeons.

The Different Typed of Dragons: Water, Fire, Aether, Nether, Forest, Ice, Ghost, and the normal ender dragon.
Water Dragon: The water dragon is one of the fairly simple dragons to acquire. Before you place the egg make sure you fence in the area in which the egg will reside. The dragon will wander freely when it hatches and can not be tamed until it has fully grown. Leave one block for the egg to sit on and remove the surrounding blocks and fill the area with water. You may need a bigger area of water because biomes can sometimes tamper with the egg.
Fire Dragon: The fire dragon along with the water dragon is fairly simple to acquire. Before you place the egg make sure you fence in the area in which the egg will reside. The dragon will wander freely when it hatches and can not be tamed until it has fully grown. Leave one block for the egg to sit on and remove the surrounding blocks and fill the area with lava. Lit Furnaces may sometimes cause the egg to turn into a fire dragon.
Aether Dragon: The aether dragon is one of the hardest dragons to acquire so make sure you are prepared before you right click the egg. Though unlikely that the dragon will jump as a baby (they cannot fly as babies) make sure you fence in the platform. To acquire the dragon make sure that the platform on which the egg will reside is at least 20 blocks above cloud level.If you are in the extreme hills biome you dont have to go into the sky simply just lay it on the stone bed to hatch.
Nether Dragon: The nether dragon is slightly more difficult than the water and fire dragons but if you have not ventured to the nether yet this dragon is impossible to acquire. Before you place the egg make sure you fence in the area in which the egg will reside. The dragon will wander freely when it hatches and can not be tamed until it has fully grown. Leave one block for the egg to sit on and remove the surrounding blocks. Fill them in with netherrack, or if you wish you could simply make the fences of the closure out of nether brick fence.
Forest Dragon: The forest dragon is the most simple dragon to acquire apart from the ender dragon.Before you place the egg make sure you fence in the area in which the egg will reside. The dragon will wander freely when it hatches and can not be tamed until it has fully grown. Leave one block for the egg to sit on and remove the surrounding blocks. Fill them in with leaves.
Ice Dragon: The ice dragon can be a hassle to acquire if you don't have a snow biome around, but if you do then it's very easy.Before you place the egg make sure you fence in the area in which the egg will reside. The dragon will wander freely when it hatches and can not be tamed until it has fully grown. Leave one block for the egg to sit on and remove the surrounding blocks. Fill them in with snow blocks or ice. The ice dragon leaves a trail of ice where every it walks. (like a snow golem)
Ghost Dragon: The ghost dragon is possibly the hardest dragon to acquire if you are not playing with other mods. The ghost dragon must be hatched at bedrock and glows in the dark.
Ender Dragon: The ender dragon is the easiest dragon to acquire.Before you place the egg make sure you fence in the area in which the egg will reside. The dragon will wander freely when it hatches and can not be tamed until it has fully grown.
TAMING: Tame your dragon once it is fully grown with raw fish.
RIDING: One of the greatest joys of having a dragon, RIDING IT!!!! Ride your dragon with a saddle. Saddles can be found in dungeons.
GLITCHES: Dragons may sometimes glitch, Stay calm and relog.
MAJOR WATER WARNING!!!!!!!!!!
Dragons CANNOT SWIM! They will sink to the bottom and be almost impossible to retrieve. If you are playing in attack of the b-team, then you can simply use a safari net to bring them back to the surface.If you are playing the 1.7.2 version you can use a lead but it is hard so you might need multiple.Also try using a fishing rod it helps a ton but try not to drown! DRAGONS DO NOT DROWN. :D
Special ablities: Dragons are like wolves they will attack anything you strike at.If your dragon is hurt you can use a raw fish or a healing potion to heal it.
